What is Acne?
Acne Vulgaris, aka acne, is a common skin condition affecting nearly 17 million people in the United States. Although it usually appears in teenagers, adults can get it too.
The condition is characterized by outbreaks of lesions better known as pimples or zits. These skin lesions include everything from whiteheads to more deeply lodged cysts and are all the result of clogged pores. Acne typically develops on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders.
Acne is rarely a serious medical condition, though in some cases it can lead to scarring of the skin and can be emotionally stressful. Fortunately, more acne medications and treatments are available today than ever before.
